SURE DOUBLE DOWN THE RIGHT FIELD LINE WITH NO RUNNERS ON BASE
PITCHER—Once he reads the extra base hit down the right field line he will break for an area behind third base to back up the base on a possible throw by the second baseman or shortstop from the tandom relay.
CATCHER—Will be responsible for the plate if a play develops there on the batter-runner.
FIRST BASEMAN—Will be responsible for watching the batter-runner touch first base. He will follow the runner down to second base being in a position at the base to field a possible throw from the second baseman, shortstop, or third baseman.
SECOND BASEMAN—As soon as he reads the extra base hit down the right field line, he will become the front man on the tandom relay. He will be instructed by the shortstop as to where the ball is to be thrown, if at all. The play will either be to the third baseman at third base, to the first baseman at second base, or there will be no play at all where the second baseman will run the ball back to the infield area. The second baseman will set up at an angle away from the right field line so that the shortstop can get into proper back up position on the tandom relay.
SHORTSTOP—Once he reads the sure double down the right field line, he will be the back up man for the second baseman on the tandom relay. If there is any possible play on the batter-runner at second base, he will remain at second base positioning himself for a possible throw from the second baseman in cut-off position. In the tandom relay, he will be responsible to communicate with the second baseman as to where the ball is to be thrown, if at all.
THIRD BASEMAN—Will be responsible for third base communicating to the second baseman and shortstop if there is a possible play at third base. The communication used by the third baseman and shortstop would be: “three-three” (throw to third base); “two-two” (throw to second base); “cut and hold” (no play at third base or second base—run the ball back to the infield area). The shortstop, who is the back man on the tandom relay, will have the final determination as to where the ball will be thrown, if at all.
LEFT FIELDER—As soon as he reads the extra base hit down the right field line, he will immediately break for an area behind second base to back up that base on a possible throw by the second baseman or shortstop to the first baseman at second base.

The shortstop, who is the back man on the tandom relay will have the final determination as to where the ball will be thrown, if at all. He will watch the runner who started at first base touch third base.
LEFT FIELDER—As soon as he reads the extra base hit down the right field line, he will break for an area behind third base to back up that base on any play made by the tandom relay players. If the throw is made to the plate he will move into back up position behind third base for any throw made to that base by the first baseman or the catcher.
CENTER FIELDER—As soon as he reads the extra base hit down the right field line, he will break for second base to cover that base to prevent the batter-runner from taking a wide turn. Will set up at the base for a possible throw from any of the defensive players. Will watch the runner who started at first base touch second base.
RIGHT FIELDER—Fields the ball down the right field line and throws to the second baseman, who is the front man on the tandom relay.
SURE DOUBLE TO RIGHT CENTER FIELD WITH A RUNNER AT FIRST BASE
PITCHER—Will break for an area behind home plate to back up a possible throw to either third base or the plate. He must get to the spot which would be an equal distance away from where he needs to be on each directional throw. Once the ball is released to either third base or the plate, he will break for the proper back up position.
CATCHER—Will be responsible for the plate, setting up for a possible play on the runner who started at first base. He will help the first baseman get into the proper cut-off position.

SHORTSTOP—Once he reads the sure extra base hit to right center field, he will be the back man for the second baseman on the tandom relay. In the tandom relay, he will be responsible to communicate with the second baseman as to where the ball is to be thrown. As soon as the ball is thrown to either third base or the plate, he will break for second base to keep the batter-runner from taking a wide turn at that base.
THIRD BASEMAN—Will be responsible for third base communicating to the second baseman and shortstop if there is a possible play at third base, to the plate, or no play on any runner. The communication used by the third baseman and shortstop would be: “four-four” (throw to the plate); “three-three”(throw to third base); “cut and hold” (no play on any runner—run the ball back to the infield area). The shortstop, who is the back man on the tandom relay will have the final determination as to where the ball will be thrown, if at all. The catcher will assist him in getting into the proper cut-off position. He will listen for the catcher for the possible cut-off throw to the plate, to third base or to second base.
SECOND BASEMAN—Once he reads the sure double down the left field line, he will be the back man for the shortstop on the tandom relay. In the tandom relay, he will be responsible to communicate with the shortstop as to where the ball is to be thrown, if at all.
SHORTSTOP—As soon as he reads the extra base hit down the left field line, he will become the front man on the tandom relay. He will be instructed by the second baseman as to where the ball is to be thrown, if at all. The play will either be to the third baseman at third base, to the right fielder at second base, to the catcher at the plate through the first baseman serving as the cut-off man, or no play at all where the shortstop will run the ball back to the infield area. The shortstop will set up at an angle away from the left field line so that the second baseman can get into the proper back up position on the tandom relay.
THIRD BASEMAN—Will be responsible for third base communicating to the shortstop and second baseman if there is a possible play at third base, to the plate, to second base, or no play on any runner. The communication used by the third baseman and second baseman would be: “four-four” (throw to the plate); “three-three” (throw to third base); “two-two” (throw to second base); “cut and hold” (no play on any runner—run the ball back to the infield area). The second baseman, who is the back man on the tandom relay, will have the final determination as to where the ball will be thrown, if at all.
LEFT FIELDER—Fields the ball down the left field line and throws to the shortstop, who is the front man on the tandom relay. As soon as he releases the ball, he will break for a position behind third base to back up the possible throw from the first baseman to the third baseman at third base.

The play will either be to the third baseman at third base, to the first baseman at second base, or there will be no play at all where the shortstop will run the ball back to the infield area. The shortstop will set up at an angle away from the left field line so that the second baseman can get into the proper back up position on the tandom relay. If the distance to the left field fence is quite short, the shortstop will be the cut-off man for the left fielder’s throw to third base. In this case, the second baseman will remain at second base.
THIRD BASEMAN—Will be responsible for third base communicating to the shortstop and second baseman if there is a possible play at third base or second base. The communication used by the third baseman and second baseman would be: “three-three” (throw to third base); “two-two” (throw to second base); “cut and hold” (no play at third base or second base-run the ball back to the infield area). The catcher will assist him in getting into the proper cut-off position. He will listen for the catcher for the possible cut-off throw to the plate, to third base or to second base. If he throws to the right fielder covering second base, he must be sure to throw accurately for there will be no one backing up the throw.
SECOND BASEMAN—Once he reads the sure extra base hit to left center field, he will be the back man for the shortstop on the tandom relay. In the tandom relay, he will be responsible to communicate with the shortstop as to where the ball is to be thrown, if at all.
